Spooky Saturday is in town on 31 October from 11am. Tatton's skeleton trail runs 24 Oct to 1 Nov, Tegg's Nose has a 50p trail map, and pumpkin picking is open.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, the last day of October half term, and Macclesfield Town Council has Spooky Saturday in the town centre that day from 11am. The council has not yet published the programme. Around it there are skeleton and door trails at Tatton and Lyme, two ranger trails in the country parks, and pumpkin picking on farms at Gawsworth and Tatton. Everything below comes from the organisers’ own pages, checked on 4 October 2026.

Spooky Saturday in the town centre
Macclesfield Town Council has listed Spooky Saturday for Saturday 31 October 2026 at 11am, under its community, family and free categories (Macclesfield Town Council: Spooky Saturday). The listing still reads “Details to be confirmed, come back at the end of September for more information”, and on 4 October nothing more had been added. We will add the programme, finish time and any road changes here when the council publishes them.
Trails in the country parks
The council’s countryside rangers run two Halloween trails over half term, both from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November:
- Tegg’s Nose Country Park, Buxton Old Road, SK11 0AP. Buy a map for 50p from The Nose Coffee in the visitor centre between 9am and 4pm, find the “spooky visitors” around the top of the park, then take the map back for 50p off food or drink. Bring a pen. The walking grade is moderate and there is a car parking charge (Cheshire East: Tegg’s Nose Halloween Trail). Enquiries: 01625 374833.
- Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve, Davenport Lane, near Congleton, CW12 4SU. Collect a map from near the visitor centre, 9am to 4pm. Easy walking grade; car parking charge (Cheshire East: Brereton Heath Halloween Trail).
Children must be with an adult on both.
Tatton Park
Tatton has the biggest Halloween programme in the area (Tatton Park: autumn and Halloween):
- Skellies and Wellies, 24 October to 1 November, closed Monday: eight skeleton scenes around the 50 acres of gardens. Normal garden and parkland entry applies.
- The Pumpkin Patch at the farm, 10 to 31 October on selected dates. Pick your own from the field; pumpkins start at £2, and you need farm and parkland tickets.
- Outdoor cinema, Tuesday 27 October: Hocus Pocus and The Lost Boys. Tickets are sold through the cinema operator, outdoor-cinema.uk.
- Myth, Magic and Mystery at the Old Hall, 29 to 31 October: Halloween folklore and potion-brewing, £15 a person, pre-booking required (Tatton Park: Myth, Magic and Mystery).
Tatton switches to winter hours from 26 October, when the park closes on Mondays. Entry prices and opening days are on our October half term page.
Lyme: Doors to Hallowtide
The National Trust’s Lyme, near Disley, has Doors to Hallowtide, an outdoor trail of doors across the woodland, gardens and parkland by Stockport artist-curator Luca Sutton, drawing on local folklore and Lyme’s ghost stories. It runs daily from 17 October to 1 November, 10.30am to 4pm until 25 October and 10.30am to 3pm from 26 October. The event is free, but normal admission charges apply. Some of the route is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies, and sturdy footwear is needed (National Trust: Doors to Hallowtide). Estate office: 01663 762023.
Pumpkin picking
Libby’s Patch at Gawsworth, between Macclesfield and Congleton, opened its first pumpkin session on 3 October. The farm says it has grown 76 varieties of pumpkins, squashes and gourds, with pizza, hot chocolate and s’mores on site, and dogs welcome on a lead (Libby’s Patch). Its website does not publish prices or session times; booking is through its book now page or hello@libbyspatch.com.
Tatton’s pumpkin patch, above, is the other nearby option with published details.
Parking and getting there
For Spooky Saturday, the town centre car parks and their charges are on our parking in Macclesfield page. Tegg’s Nose and Brereton Heath both have pay car parks. Check our roadworks and travel page before driving out; several roads around Macclesfield have closures this autumn. Bonfire night follows a week later, and the displays are on our fireworks page.
What is still to be confirmed
- Spooky Saturday’s programme and finish time. The town council promised details at the end of September; none were posted by 4 October.
- Libby’s Patch prices and session times.
- Tatton’s pumpkin patch dates, listed only as “selected dates”.
