Where we cover
Macclesfield first, then Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Handforth, Bollington, Poynton, Disley, Knutsford, Mobberley and Chelford, with the silk-town streets at one end of the patch and the Peak District boundary at the other. Crewe, Nantwich and Sandbach are in the same borough but they are a different place with a different set of arguments, and we do not pretend otherwise.
Why this site exists
Cheshire East Council has been the single authority here since 2009: bins, planning, council tax, roads, licensing, schools. It publishes a great deal, and hardly any of it is read by the households it lands on. Turning that paperwork into something you can read in two minutes is half the job. The other half is quieter, keeping the practical pages accurate, because a wrong bin date costs somebody a fortnight.
How we report
Every story is built on a named source. The council’s planning register and committee papers, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Bollin and the Dane, The Gazette and the rest of the public record. We link to that source on every fact. Where a record is ambiguous we say so instead of smoothing it over. We use software to help us watch those sources and draft routine updates quickly, but the facts always come from the named document and anything sensitive is checked by a person before it goes up.
