East Cheshire Hospice collects real Christmas trees on 9 and 10 January 2027 across SK10, SK11 and four more postcodes. Booking opens soon; 38 local tree sellers listed.

The date to know for a real tree in Macclesfield is the one after Christmas. East Cheshire Hospice collects Christmas trees from homes on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 2027, in exchange for a donation, across the SK10, SK11, SK9, SK12, CW12 and WA16 postcodes. Booking has not opened yet.

The quick answer

  • Tree collection: Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 2027. Put the tree out by 9am on the Saturday; volunteers pick it up some time over the weekend.
  • Booking: register the tree online and pay the donation by card, or by phone. The hospice says bookings for the 2027 collection “will be available soon”. There is no minimum donation.
  • Where to buy one: the hospice lists 38 tree sellers that back the collection, 15 of them in the SK10 and SK11 postcodes. None of them has published 2026 opening dates or prices yet.

The hospice tree collection

The collection is one of the biggest volunteer efforts in east Cheshire. The hospice says more than 300 volunteers give over 2,000 hours to it, and that the January 2026 collection raised over £160,000 (East Cheshire Hospice). It started in 1999 as a Prestbury Church fundraiser for a new organ; the hospice has been the only beneficiary since 2001, the total has passed £2 million, and the volunteers won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2016 (history of the collection).

If you miss the collection

A cut-up tree can go in the garden waste bin if you subscribe, but those collections stop for the winter. The last 2026 garden waste date, the January restart and the tip’s Christmas hours are on our Christmas bin collections page as the council confirms them.

Getting to the sellers

Most of the farms are out of town and the garden centres have their own car parks. For the town centre sellers, parking charges and the free spaces are on our parking in Macclesfield page, and any road closures in December are on our roadworks page. The rest of the town’s Christmas is on our Christmas markets page.
